Typically, this is caused by an outdated sound card driver and the issue can be corrected by updating the driver.
If updating the driver does not solve the problem, we may be able to diagnose the cause from the logs in the GP4 program.
Note: We have also had reports that the 'Dell Webcam Center' has a program which will allow you to alter your voice to sound like cartoon characters or to change the pitch of your voice. There are also other programs available that allow similar effects so make sure that you don't have these enabled if you're trying to track down an audio issue.
Updating a Sound Card Driver
First run Windows update and install all available updates, then run the Audio Tuning Wizard again to see if that solved the problem. If the issue still persists, a manual driver update may correct it. The steps below show one way of getting the latest drivers for the PC.
- Go to the PC vendor's website and download and install the latest audio driver for your specific model.
Typically the vendor has a support link where you can search for upgrades, software, etc.
They also supply contact information and links to get in touch with the support staff if you have difficulties finding the download.
The support link for Dell drivers is included here as a reference. http://support.dell.com/support/ - Re-start the PC.
- Open GP4 and run the Audio Tuning Wizard again to see if that solved the problem.
Sending the GP4 Logs to Support
- Open GP4 if it is not already running, select Show Logs from the Tools menu in GP4 and select the Detailed Debugging option, then close the log dialog window.
- Exit GP4 from the File menu (don't us the 'x' in the title bar to close it).
- Re-open GP4 and run the Audio Tuning Wizard to reproduce the strange/distorted sounding voice when you speak.
- Close the Audio Tuning Wizard dialog.
- Select Show Logs from the Tools menu in GP4, enter an upload description in the description field and click the Upload Logs to Support Team button.
- *** Important*** De-select the Detailed Debugging option, then close the log dialog window.
- Send an email to support@gatherplace.com letting us know you uploaded logs for our review and include the text from the Step 4 description field.
We'll let you know what we find via an email response once the analysis is completed, but that process may take several days depending on the current workload.
